WHAT WE DO

We are a user-led organisation and we listen to the experiences, ideas and needs expressed by all those who have been or are affected by depression.  This underpins all our activities and services, and everything we do.

Practical Support

We have a network of self-help groups throughout Wales.  They meet regularly and are a source of expertise, support and understanding, as well as facilitating the sharing of coping strategies.

We are currently developing our website facilities, so we can offer online support.

Services

We provide an information and advice service by telephone, email and letter.  We are currently looking for funding to set up and run a depression resource centre.

We provide a free information pack.

We have a variety of mutual support services for our members.

We monitor all of our services to ensure that they are of the highest quality, and we are constantly exploring new areas of service development.

Practical Resources

We offer an innovative range of practical resources that focus on self-help and achieving recovery, this includes an audio book and a CD-Rom.

Publications

We have a unique a collection of booklets and leaflets that cover a variety of depression related topics.  We also produce a quarterly newsletter, and have other new publications in development.

Training & Education

We provide an extensive selection of training courses.  This includes self-management, mental wellbeing, training for employers and mental health workers, and mental health promotion.

We regularly run awareness raising events, conferences and information days covering many depression related topics and for a wide variety of audiences.

Campaigning & Policy Development

We have been involved in a number of campaigns over the years to combat stigma and discrimination; improve treatment options; increase awareness and understanding; and bring about positive change for people affected by depression.
We champion the rights and needs of people affected by depression to decision makers.  This includes influencing new services and treatments, as well as working with the Welsh Assembly Government on the development of policy and legislation.  We make sure that the voices of people affected by depression are heard both locally and nationally.

Research

We use many different approaches to conduct research into a variety of depression related topics.  The findings of this research informs the services and resources that we develop and deliver, as well as helping us better understand depression, prevention, recovery and mental health promotion.  We distribute this information so that other organisations and agencies can increase their awareness and understanding too.
