Welcome to the Journeys Online forum
Welcome to the Journeys Online forum. We hope that you will use this space to engage in constructive discussion and debate with fellow participants.
Journeys' starting point is that once the hype around antidepressants and talking therapies is stripped away, we still have a great deal to learn about depression if we are going to help those affected achieve sustained recovery, and help reduce the numbers affected by depression in future. We have no particular axe to grind - we are nether "pro" or "anti" any of the various treatments and support services for depression, but we do support the free flow of information about these in order that people can make informed choices about their own health. Similarly, while we value personal experience, we also know that what works for one person does not necessarily wor for another.
Here we hope to encourage a rounded discussion and debate about all aspects of depression. We welcome the views of anyone with an interest in depression - either as someone with direct experience, someone who lives with or cares for someone with depression, a professional who works with people with depression, or an academic who studies depression. We also treat everyone as equal - the simple fact of your being a professional, and academic, a carer or someone with direct experience (and it is entirely possible to be all four!) does not entitle you to special treatment - the role you happen to be playing is less important than the views you wish to express.
We ask all forum participants to follow the Forum Rules so that we can continue to provide a safe space for an informed discussion and debate about a condition that should be the primary public health priority for the next decade.
