Peer support groups

Journeys supports a network of peer support groups. Our aim is to establish a group in every town, so anyone affected by depression can access this valuable source of support whenever they need it.

The groups vary in the types of meetings that they hold and the activities that they engage in. However, they all provide a safe place where people can get and give support, share experiences and learn new coping strategies.

Groups provide information and mutual support for recovery from depression. They do not provide “group therapy”, nor are the Journeys Group Leaders counsellors or therapists – they are people with direct experience of overcoming depression who can provide positive role models for those currently affected by depression.

Journeys Group Leaders receive ongoing support and training from Journeys. Training includes Mental Health First Aid (Wales), and our groundbreaking Depression Busting™ self-management programme.

Journeys also offers Group Leaders a Group Facilitator Package which, among other things, includes a Group Facilitator's Manual, EAP Connect (a free 24/7 counselling service for Group Facilitators), and a £250 per group per year fund to use however the group sees fit. You can read more about the package and what it includes here
