Stigma linked to beliefs about recovery
A recent report from the Irish Health Research Board states that continuing stigma around mental illness is caused by our collective failure to recognise that most people recover from mental illness.
The report, Reconnecting with Life: Personal Experiences of Recovering from Mental Health Problems in Ireland, sets out practical pathways for recovery from mental illness and reconnecting with life. It also makes clear that it is essential that those agencies and professionals that work with mental illness must actively maintain and promote a belief in recovery.
