Depression & Young People

Depression affects young people as well as adults.  With the right help and support you can find your road to recovery

It is only in the last decade or so that clinicians have recognised that children and adolescents can be affected by depression.  Although not as prevalent as in adults, depression is a major problem for younger people.  In addition to suicide - which is second only to accidental deaths as a killer of young people - depression can be disabling for young people at a crucial stage in their lives, often resulting in academic failure and exclusion from employment.

This leaflet is aimed at raising awareness of depression in young people and those who work with them.  The leaflet sets out how to respond, and gives information about where to seek help and support.
