Treating Depression

Treating Depression Illustration

There are many ways that depression can be treated.  With the right help and support you can find your road to recovery

Ask people how depression is treated, and most often they will tell you, "with antidepressants".  10 years ago, they would have been right, but much has changed in recent years.  Go to your GP with depression today, and you are more likely to come away with a prescription for a self-help book, and exercise programme or computerised cognitive behavioural therapy than with the traditional packet of pills and a sick note.

Unfortunately, not all GPs are aware of the NICE approved treatments that they could prescribe.  Nor is this information known to many of those seeking help for depression.  This leaflet sets out the different types of treatment that should be available to you.
